The Washtenaw County Adult Corrections Facility, commonly called the Washtenaw County Jail, holds local pretrial detainees, some sentenced people, and people awaiting transfer. The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office operates it. A departure can follow bond, dismissal, time served, or a local court order. In those cases, the person may return to the community while the criminal case or a supervision order continues.
Other departures are transfers. A sentenced felony commitment can move a person to Michigan Department of Corrections jurisdiction. Another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, the Bureau of Prisons, or immigration authorities may also receive someone. “Released from WCSO” only states that county physical custody ended. It does not say where the person went. The release sheet or jail movement record should be read for the receiving agency, destination, disposition, and authority.

Confirm Washtenaw County Jail Release
The county path uses several official sources because no single public WCSO feed was verified. Begin with the court record that matches the arrest. Then check MI-VINE for a participating custody event. WCSO can address county custody, while a written request can obtain the durable event record. Use another locator only when the case shows that another sovereign took over.
- Search the Michigan court portal and identify the correct Washtenaw court and case. Read bond, dismissal, sentence, and commitment entries in date order.
- Search MI-VINE through VINELink by name and booking or offender number when available. Compare the reporting agency and identity details.
- Call WCSO at 734-971-8400 and ask for the jail or records channel that can confirm whether the person remains in WCSO custody.
- Request the booking sheet, release sheet, and movement or transfer entry when the actual release time or destination must be documented.
- If the court shows an MDOC commitment, use OTIS. Use the BOP locator or ICE ODLS only when the record supports that federal path.

Washtenaw County Jail Has No Feed
The current WCSO Corrections menu and Incarcerated Individual Information page publish service links, not a public roster. The plausible former sheriff inmate-search address now returns Page Not Found. No verified WCSO 24-hour or 72-hour release archive, public field dictionary, photo feed, refresh cycle, or retention period was found.
That absence changes how a release must be checked. A name cannot be tracked from an in-custody list into a released list. It is also wrong to assume an unofficial site is WCSO merely because it uses local words or official-looking colors. The reliable product is the fallback chain: court event, MI-VINE event, WCSO contact, and an identified jail record.
No official WCSO jail lookup app was verified. Communications and account tools mentioned in jail materials serve different purposes. They should not be labeled release locators.
Washtenaw County Jail Release Records
The durable county record is usually a booking and release sheet or a jail movement entry linked to the arrest and court case. WCSO has not published a public record schema. The fields below are items to identify in a focused request, not columns from an online roster.

If the disposition uses a code, ask for an existing code key. “Time served” generally indicates that the local custodial term was treated as complete. Bond is conditional pretrial release, not case closure. A dismissed charge must be checked against every case. A transfer is not a community release.

Michigan FOIA, MCL 15.231 et seq., covers existing nonexempt public records. MCL 15.234 governs fees, while MCL 15.235 generally requires an initial form of response within five business days. That response can grant, deny, partially grant, or invoke a permitted extension. It does not always mean production is complete in five days.
When WCSO says no release sheet exists, ask whether a jail movement log, booking-history printout, or code-bearing disposition field contains the event. The agency need not create a new explanation. A precise request is more useful than asking for every record about a person.
Washtenaw Jail Release Court Records
Washtenaw criminal cases can sit in 14A District Court, 14B District Court, Ann Arbor's 15th District Court, or the 22nd Circuit Court. The case location depends on the municipality and case level. A register of actions can show arraignment, bond change, dismissal, sentence, jail time, probation, or commitment. It explains the legal basis for release, but the actual jail departure time remains a WCSO record.
A felony can also move between public court views. Under MCR 8.119(H)(10), district-court records become nonpublic after a qualifying bindover to circuit court, while the accessible file is maintained in circuit court. If the matter is remanded, accessibility can shift back. A district result that appears to stop is therefore not proof that the case ended or the person was released.
Judicial records follow court rules, including MCR 8.119, rather than the same process used for executive-branch FOIA requests. Request the judgment, bond order, dismissal order, or other release-related order from the clerk that maintains the accessible file. Then compare it with MI-VINE or WCSO for the physical custody event.
Washtenaw Jail Release Processing History
A 2003 jail planning assessment described the local Intake, Transfer and Release process. In that historical account, staff verified identity and eligibility, returned personal clothing and valuables, obtained signatures, and directed released people through the public lobby. It helps explain why a legal order and the completed physical release are separate events.
The assessment is not current operating policy. No present release hour, weekend schedule, family waiting rule, exact exit, or guaranteed processing time was verified. It should not be used to predict when or where someone will walk out today. Current facts must come from WCSO.
Note: Administrative release steps can follow a court event, so an order timestamp should not be repeated as the jail departure time.
Washtenaw Jail Property Release
WCSO has a specific path when property is released before the incarcerated person's own departure. The official property-release page says the incarcerated person must send a kite to Intake, Transfer and Release naming the person authorized to collect the property. A kite is a written request used inside the facility. It should not be handed to a visiting officer.
This procedure concerns personal property, not proof that the person has been released. An authorized pickup can occur while the owner remains in custody. The historical assessment separately described property return and signatures during release processing, but current release practice must still be confirmed with WCSO.
After Washtenaw County Jail Release
Leaving the jail may begin one of several community tracks. Washtenaw Community Corrections can administer court-referred pretrial controls. Local district-court probation follows its own orders. MDOC parole or felony probation is a separate state system. These statuses cannot be merged into a generic idea of probation.
The court order identifies local conditions. OTIS and the assigned MDOC office identify state supervision. A person on parole has physically left prison but remains in MDOC legal custody.
